Part #1 : Running
SO, here it is. I’m entering this insane event in June! More due to peer pressure than actually wanting to take part in it;

Plenty of fire pits to run and jump through
The running training has started…sort of. Apparently, being able to run 12km (7.5 miles) without feeling like you’re going to die is one essential part of completing the course successfully. I’m reading this as – being able to run 12km on tarmac, pavement & gravel at average altitude of 1,400m in 60mins or less (is that good?..I have no idea). Having not put running shoe to tarmac in over 6 years (since my Shaolin Gong Fu days in the early to mid noughties) – this part of the training was the most daunting…but I’m running once a week now – and surprisingly enough, actually enjoying it! This week was my 5th run out and I managed to smash 8km in under 40mins…just 😉 The first run in March was 6km in 30mins – so feel like I’m slowly making progress…10km in 50mins by May, 12km in 60mins by June..easy…right??

The snow is starting to melt on some of the lower, more exposed, south-facing trails over here and once they open up again we’ll be alternating road & trail running week to week; road running to (try and) get the 12km in 60mins for morale purposes and trail running, as I presume this will be more the type of terrain in the actual event – although I’m thinking, Brighton in June?…probably gonna be more like UK mud & slop rather than Alpine rock & dust. But more importantly, sticking to one running session per week leaves me plenty of time each week to use the summer trails for their primary purpose…shreddin them on the bikes 🙂
Still not sure why I’m doing this but now determined to complete it and complete it in a respectable time too and obviously, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?…right?
