Bob Burnquist’s “Dreamland” – A Backyard Progression

Published on 31 Jul 2013

Among the most influential skateboarders the industry has ever seen, Bob Burnquist is still innovating. In his new webisode series, Burnquist grants his fans exclusive access to the private domain in which so many of his contributions to skateboarding were born, his backyard in Southern California, better known as “Dreamland.” Hence, “The Dreamland Series.”

To lead off the series, we see something from Burnquist that hasn’t been seen since 2010: a full-length video part filled with never-before-seen footage. And, the Hip. Yes, he added a Hip feature onto his personal MegaRamp. A Hip that starts up on a hill and sends him across a 15-foot gap into the 25-foot quarterpipe. You know, something mellow.

Just a small warning: a short scene in this video may disturb some of our more sensitive viewers, so viewer discretion advised, folks!

World Speed Record On A Mountain Bike

Eric Barone is a French sportsman who made a name for himself by setting world speed records on a bike, both on snow and gravel. On April 15th of 2013, he attempted to beat his own record on snow, which was established in 2002 and stood at 222 km/h.
Did he, did he not? Find out here. No talking, just biking.

The Making of a Tough Mudder…update

IMG_20130415_171931

Salomon Speedcross 3 CS Trail Running Shoe

ALORS, at the end of last week I broke the 10km barrier and under the time I’d set myself of 50mins so I’m obviously moving in the right direction with this clueless training program I’ve set myself.  I did it in 48:40 so not much to spare but I’m not sure if I’ll get any faster than that because it felt like I was pretty much flat out for the entire distance.

What it does mean, is that my goal of being able to run 12km in under 60mins by the time of the Tough Mudder at the beginning of June (well – end of May actually, as apparently you should rest up with no hardcore training for the week before a big race/event like this) is still on…like Donkey Kong 🙂

And even better news…is that those bad boys in the photo above turned up today!  And. They. Feel. Awesome!  Lots of support but very flexible and a serious tread pattern (is that only for tyres or can you use that for shoe soles too?) that looks like they’ll have me eating up these Alpine trails with no problem at all…well that’s the idea.  And everyone knows red stuff makes you go faster anyway 😉

The Making of a Tough Mudder…

Tough Mudder Extreme Endurance Challenge

Part #1 : Running

SO, here it is.  I’m entering this insane event in June!  More due to peer pressure than actually wanting to take part in it;

Probably the toughest event on the planet…

Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses, 700,000 inspiring participants worldwide to date, and more than $5 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.

Plenty of fire pits to run and jump through

The running training has started…sort of.  Apparently, being able to run 12km (7.5 miles) without feeling like you’re going to die is one essential part of completing the course successfully.  I’m reading this as – being able to run 12km on tarmac, pavement & gravel at average altitude of 1,400m in 60mins or less (is that good?..I have no idea).  Having not put running shoe to tarmac in over 6 years (since my Shaolin Gong Fu days in the early to mid noughties) – this part of the training was the most daunting…but I’m running once a week now – and surprisingly enough, actually enjoying it!  This week was my 5th run out and I managed to smash 8km in under 40mins…just 😉  The first run in March was 6km in 30mins – so feel like I’m slowly making progress…10km in 50mins by May, 12km in 60mins by June..easy…right??

2012 Tough Mudder Extreme Endurance Challenge

A real Mudder from one of the 2012 events

The snow is starting to melt on some of the lower, more exposed, south-facing trails over here and once they open up again we’ll be alternating road & trail running week to week;  road running to (try and) get the 12km in 60mins for morale purposes and trail running, as I presume this will be more the type of terrain in the actual event – although I’m thinking, Brighton in June?…probably gonna be more like UK mud & slop rather than Alpine rock & dust.   But more importantly, sticking to one running session per week leaves me plenty of time each week to use the summer trails for their primary purpose…shreddin them on the bikes 🙂

Still not sure why I’m doing this but now determined to complete it and complete it in a respectable time too and obviously, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?…right?

Paper Shredder…

A Stop Animation Snowboard Film
Created By: Paul & Stephen Gemignani

One snowboard shredders adventure in an unusual setting.

The Filming Process:
We started with actual sequence photos of Paul riding (taken by his brother Stephen). Then we printed each frame of the sequences on paper and cut out the rider from each one, which we used to re-create the sequences with different backdrops, creating the stop animation effect used in the video – a very SLOW process. It was challenging at times, but it came together in the end. We hope you like the film.

ENJOY!
