The winter season is coming to an end in Serre Chevalier but no one has told Mother Nature that. More snow last night & this morning with a freezing level of about 1500m so there was even snow on the cars when we woke up.
Was on the first lift this morning and was glad I had my proper winter jacket on – it was pretty cold up on the Col de la Ricelle with a fairly strong easterly wind blowing snow into your face. But once you dropped down off the ridge and got out of the wind there was plenty of fun to be had even if visibility was a down to about 20m at times.
The cloud did eventually thin slightly and the snow was even better on the Prorel side so we did a couple of runs over there before coming all the way back down to Chantemerle on the (un-groomed-is-it-open-is-it-closed) Luc Alphand black run – which was hard work but still fun in a challenging kind of way.
More snow forecast for the rest of this week. The Serre Che lifts are closing for the season on Sunday but we still have passes for Montgenevre which I believe is open another week and then it will be a couple of days over at Les Deux Alpes the following week and that will be the season done & dusted.
Here are the best of the snaps from this morning;
